What To Do With Unchecked Boxes

As a leadership coach, I’m looking to grow the number of clients I work with, so this week I reviewed the landscape of companies looking for coaches.

The list of requirements for many of these companies is pretty long, and for good reason. Some of the boxes I checked; others I haven’t checked yet in this part of my journey. As the saying goes, we’re all works in progress.

What do you do with the unchecked boxes? Close the browser quickly and find something else? Decide there’s no fit? Or feel for what they are telling you? Two paths are straightforward; the other pinches a bit.

I decided there were some things I need to do to reach a certain level of coaching certification. Peer coaching, here I come.

I looked at other unchecked boxes and decided to move forward anyway. What we may lack in one area we may more than make up for in another where there is no box.

When staring at an unchecked box, listen to what it’s telling you. Some boxes point toward work you still need to do. Others remind you that your value may not fit neatly inside the form.

If we wait until we check every box, we may never step forward.

How do you respond to unchecked boxes? If you’re working through a few of your own, that’s the kind of work I help leaders do.
